Lucien learned to read at a relatively young age. He was read to every night by his parents, and the Veterans Memorial Library was one of his favorite places to spend time. When he was ready to delve into the depths of the literary world, he tried sounding out words from the Dick and Jane Collection. Eventually he moved on to Frog and Toad, and other chapter books. He believes that people read for various reasons. For some, literature is an escape from everyday life and others read to become more knowledgeable about a certain subject. While people do read for pleasure, reading may not always be enjoyable or voluntary. For example, sometimes a person is forced to read for a class or job. In order to be a good reader, simply, one must be an active reader. That means paying attention and critically thinking about what one is reading. Lucien was able to pick up reading pretty easily and is able to comprehend most of what he reads. However, is not the fastest reader and tends to take his time rereading a paragraph to make sure he fully understands it. Lucien usually prefers critically acclaimed books to popular fiction. Science Fiction is his favorite, but any novel that is well written and leaves the reader with something to think about is a book that Lucien would enjoy. Lucien tries to read at home everyday. He believes that reading is essential in growing one's character as well as one's intelligence.

He believes that people write for a myriad of reasons, but ultimately, writing is a way to formulate your thoughts into a coherently and share them with the world. In order to write well, one must read. Reading and writing go hand in hand. Reading can stimulate a writer's ideas and broaden their vocabulary. If he could write anything, Lucien would write science fiction or mysteries. Usually, his ideas come from the world around him. He is influenced by their surroundings, and it only makes sense to draw ideas from things he knows. As a writer, Lucien prefers constructive criticism as a response to his writing. He realizes that his writing could improve and enjoys tips on how to make it better. While he does enjoy writing, he hardly writes unless a school assignment calls for it.
